When we started organizing our wedding, we decided that it would be a nice gesture to our guests if we present them something to remind them of our wedding day. This tradition is most probably a modern version of the times when our parents got married and pinned a handkerchief to the suit or dress of each guest when they accepted congratulations and presents.
After lots of research, thinking and planning, we chose this option:
A sweet little thingie, wedding-like, and glazed, but selected and presented with love. We had a dedication on it: “Teodora and Georgi, the date of our wedding and a thank you for sharing our special day with us”
The recap
- More than half of the favors were left on the restaurant tables
- The guests who took theirs haven’t displayed them. Not one. Except my mom and me.
When planning Stela and Valio’s wedding, instead of learning our lesson, we decided that we didn’t choose right the first time and tried this beautiful and useless thing:
The recap
- Again, more than half of the favors were left on the restaurant tables
- This time, no one displayed the useless thingie – not even mom, not even Stela.
After this case, we learned our lesson and we advise our clients against the wedding favors. If they have strong opinion in favor, there are some options that can pass as meaningful, such as:
♥ A little honey jar with the names of the newlyweds. True that most of the people would eat the honey and won’t have a souvenir to remind them of the wedding, but at least most of the guests on which we offered this present took theirs home and we suspect they enjoyed it afterwards.
♥ A fridge magnet with pictures of the bride and groom or another cute wedding figurine. This, of course, the people who put magnets on the refrigerator.
♥ Heart-shaped corkscrew and wine stopper
♥ A wedding photo of the bride and groom in a beautiful frame. This is a very meaningful gift, which would probably be displayed in many of the guests’ living rooms, but is kind of expensive.
♥ A bottle of wine or other alcohol with a label that describes a romantic story about the bride and groom. It will be used and similarly to the honey wouldn’t leave a lasting memory, but at least while enjoying it, the guests will talk about the wonderful wedding they attended.
Our top 5 of useless wedding favors:
♦ All types of souvenirs like a wedding basket, slipper, elephant, bunny, heart, swan, etc. You get the point.
♦ Candies – they are either left behind in the restaurant or the children eat them during the reception.
♦ Card holder with a wedding motif. Who would even consider bringing such thing to their office?
♦ Shells. Unless collected personally by the couple, or unless there is a very special story related to them. Even if the wedding theme is sea-related.
♦ Aroma candles or incense sticks. I won’t even go there.
If you need advice when making wedding decisions like do you need wedding favors or not, or if you would like to let a professional organize your wedding, we at Inanna wedding agency would be glad to assist.
